Holiday Gift Guide

One of my secret gifts that I don’t often talk about is gift-giving. I love to buy gifts for people—it might have something to do with the fact that my love language is gifts.

That’s why Christmas is one of my favorite holidays! I love making my list and taking my time thinking about each person’s interests, hobbies, and goals. For that reason, I’m excited to share a thoughtful gift guide that will hopefully help you come up with a great gift idea for any writer or book-lover in your life. And if nothing on this list is right for your person, I hope it at least sparks some ideas. Merry Christmas, my friends!

*You’ll notice below that the gifts are categorized by price point and whether they would be best for a writer, a book-lover, or both.*

W = writers

B = book lovers (people who love to read but aren’t writers themselves)

W/B = a combination of both (a writer who also loves to read!)

Under $25

  • W/B | Book reading light

For reading in bed (and planes!) without disturbing the person you share a bed with. Here are some of the bestsellers on Amazon.

  • W/B | “From the Library of” . . . stamp

My husband bought me one of these stamps a few years ago, and I love it so much. It’s a creative way to put your name on a book—that way, if you ever lend it out, they know who it belongs to.

  • B | A signed copy of their favorite book

Many independent bookstores (and even Barnes and Noble) will have signed copies of books—especially if the author of the book is local, so give it a look!

  • W | A pencil holder that says writer

Every writer needs a reminder that they’re a writer because imposter syndrome is real. I actually have this exact one, but I found mine at T.J. Maxx.

  • W | A planner or notebook

It’s a bit of a challenge to pick out a planner for someone else because everyone needs something different, but if you’re up for the challenge, I love this Rifle Paper Co. planner.

  • W | A book about writing/for writers

Some of the classics are On Writing by Stephen King , Bird by Bird by Anne Lamott, and The Emotion Thesaurus (SO helpful for fiction writers)

  • W/B | A unique bookmark

This leather bookmark would be beautiful monogrammed and paired with a new book for them to enjoy.

  • W/B | A mug with books on it

How beautiful is this porcelain mug with classic books on it? You could even pair it with some single-origin coffee beans.

  • W/B | 100 Books to Read scratch off poster

I got this for Christmas last year, and while I haven’t started using it, I love knowing it’s an option if I ever get into a reading funk!

  • W/B | A tote bag to lug around town

My husband bought me this exact tote many years ago when we were dating and living in New York City.

Under $50

  • W/B | A gift card to a beautiful, independent bookstore

Like Parnassus in Nashville or Strand in New York City. Most hardcover books are just over $25, that’s why I added it to this category.

  • W/B | Cute bookends for their book display

This is absolutely adorable! I think I’ll be getting some for myself . . .

  • W/B | Floating book shelves

I’ve had these exact shelves for years (and have moved them with me to many different homes) and they’ve held up great! It makes it look like your books are floating in the air. A total statement piece and conversation starter.

  • W/B | Gift card to audible

Because sometimes an audiobook is the only way you can squeeze in reading time.

Under $100

  • W | Noise canceling headphones

I won’t share an exact recommendation for this one because I actually don’t own any (so I don’t want to speak to the quality of a product I don’t have), but I think this would be a very thoughtful gift for someone who is trying to accomplish a writing goal.

  • B | Subscription to Book of the Month

Book of the Month offers a 3, 6, and 12 month subscription gift option. I would LOVE something like this, and I know your book-lover friends will too.

$100+

  • W/B | Embroidered artwork of their favorite book/their own book

No doubt your friend will be blown away by this! Honestly, I have no idea how much this costs, but I’m assuming it’s in this category.

  • W | A beautiful, large tote bag

Something like this will fit their laptop and all other materials needed to write

  • B | A kindle

I used to hate e-readers . . . until I had kids! Now I love that I can throw my kindle in my diaper bag without fear of crumbling pages.

  • W/B | An Ember Mug

Because no writer, book-lover, or normal human wants to drink lukewarm coffee. This mug is a game changer!
